Minor League Week Three Review

I’ve neglected to mention this until now, but it needs to be said: my sincerest condolences to all of those effected by the severe storms that have been lashing the southeastern stretch of the country.  There’s been much loss of life, and many people have had their homes and businesses destroyed by tornadoes and high winds.

Tacoma Rainiers (6-15)
Streak: Lost 1
Opponents: 1 vs Colorado Springs (COL),
4 @ Salt Lake (LAA), 1 @ Reno (ARI)
Notes: A 2-4 week and the Rainiers are really scuffling, though the offense has started to come around the last few days.  The pitching, on the other hand, has done little but struggle of late, and the defense has as well, posting a shocking 11 errors for the week.
Standouts: C Josh Bard (.286/.375/.524, 6 H, 2 2B, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 3 BB, 0 K’s), OF Mike Carp (.429/.478/.667, 9 H, 7 R, 2 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 2 BB, 3 K’s),
3B Alex Liddi (.333/.391/.619, 7 H, 1 HR, 2 2B, 4 RBI, 2 BB, 8 K’s)
Dunces: 2B Dustin Ackley(.192/.344/.269, 5 H, 6 BB, 5 K’s, 1 CS, 1 E), SS Sean Kazmar (.211/.318/.316, 4 H, 3 BB, 4 K’s, 4 E), LHP Luke French (2 GS, 1 L, 11 1/3 IP, 20 H, 11 R, 6 ER, 3 HR, 5 K’s, 2 BB)
Next Seven Days: 3 @ Reno, vs Tucson (SD)

Jackson Generals (9-10)
Streak:
Opponents: 1 @ Montgomery (TB),
5 vs Mobile (ARI), 1 @ Chattanooga (LAD)
Notes: Mother nature wreaked havoc on Jackson’s schedule this week, as she did with many other teams.  Still, they went 3-2 in the games they did manage to get in, and that brought them closer to the .500 mark than any other team in the organization.
Standouts: DH Luis Jimenez (.400/.455/.700, 8 H, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 2 BB, 2 K’s),
2B Kyle Seager (.478/.520/.609, 11 H, 3 2B, 5 RBI, 2 BB, 3 K’s), LHP Anthony Vasquez (1 GS, 1 W, 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 5 K, 1 BB, 6 ground outs, 5 air outs)
Dunces: 1B Rich Poythress (.211/.375/.263, 4 H, 1 2B, 5 BB, 6 K’s), 3B Nate Tenbrink (.214/.389/.286, 3 H, 1 2B, 4 BB, 5 K’s)
Next Seven Days: 4 @ Chattanooga, 3 vs Birmingham (CHW)

High Desert Mavericks (9-12)
Streak: Lost 2
Opponents: 2 @ Lake Elsinore, 4 vs Inland Empire (LAA)
Notes: A decidedly mediocre week for High Desert ended on two consecutive 14-6 blowouts at the hands of Inland Empire.  It was actually a pretty low-scoring week for High Desert, as several bats cooling off led them to never breaking the 6-run mark in any game during the week.  Denny Almonte’s power binge coming to an abrupt halt didn’t help any, as he managed just one extra-base hit all week, a double.
Standouts: 1B Vince Catricala (.333/.355/.500, 10 H, 1 HR, 2 2B, 1 BB, 4 K’s), OF Daniel Carroll (.300/.462/.800, 6 H, 8 R, 2 HR, 2 2B, 1 3B, 7 SB), SS Nick Franklin (.222/.481/.389, 4 H, 6 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 9 BB, 5 K’s, 2 SB), LHP James Gillheeney (1 GS, 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 HR, 7 K’s, 0 BB)
Dunces: RHP Yoervis Medina (2 GS, 2 L, 7 1/3 IP, 19 H, 14 R, 11 ER, 3 HR,
8 K’s, 3 BB), DH Dennis Raben (.158/.273/.316, 3 H, 1 HR, 3 BB, 7 K’s), OF James Jones (.062/.167/.062, 1 H, 2 BB, 8 K’s)
Next Seven Days: 3 vs Rancho Cucamonga (LAD), 4 @ Modesto (COL)

Clinton LumberKings (5-15)
Streak: Lost 3
Opponents:  2 @ Kane County (KC), 3 vs Peoria (CHC), 1 @ Wisconsin (MIL)
Notes:  The LumberKings played just five games thanks to a pair of rainouts, but that didn’t mean they played well in the games they had, going just 1-4 on the week.  The ‘Kings just played plain ol’ bad baseball, scoring just 12 runs on the week while surrendering 43.  That’s ugly, no matter how you slice it.
Standouts: LHP Anthony Fernandez (1 GS, 1 W, 5 1/3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 4 K’s, 2 BB,
9 groundouts, 1 flyout), RHP Ty Burgoon (1 G, 1 S, 1 2/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 K, 1 BB)
Dunces: UTIL Stefen Romero (.083/.154/.333, 1 HR, 3 K’s, 1 BB), RHP Forrest Snow (1 GS, 1 L, 3 2/3 IP, 9 H, 8 R, 3 K, 0 BB), RHP George Mieses (1 GS, 1 L, 1 2/3 IP, 5 H, 8 R, 6 ER, 1 K, 2 BB)
Next Seven Days: 3 @ Wisconsin, 3 vs Beloit (MIN), 2 @ Peoria – double deader scheduled for 4/29
